The majority of my teaching relates in some way to plant conservation.
From 1988 to 2014 I ran the Oxford Botanic Garden and it was while I the director I stated teaching undergraduates and found that I really enjoyed the work. The Garden developed a very effective education programme for Oxfordshire schools and adults. We also restored 67-acres of wildflower meadows just outside Oxford. The Garden was involved in several successful plant species recovery programmes for species threatened with extinction.
In 2014 I left the Botanic Garden and became am a college lecturer in Plant Biology at Hertford College Oxford & Somerville College Oxford. This means that I give tutorials and support to the undergraduates at these colleges. I also give tutorials to students from other colleges and I give lectures as part of the degree course to all the biology students.
